Bobby's post below entitled "Children's Horror" brought back memories of watching Are You Afraid of the Dark? at my Grandma's house with my little sister. Does anyone else remember the episode with the monster in the swimming pool?
Behold: "The Tale of the Dead Man's Float"
Best. Episode. Ever.

I love this series, and I am upset that it is never on TV anymore, not even in re-runs! On Saturday nights when "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" came on, we would turn off all of the lights in our house and light one candle and watch the new episode. The scariest one I think is the one with vampires in a hospital or something along those lines, but I will never forget this show. In fact, some of the episodes truly scared me when I was a child, some to an uncomfortable level. Relating this to my previous post on Children's horror and remembering this series from the point of view of a child, I'd say this series falls right along the line of ideal for children and too scary for children. Some of the episodes are a lot lighter than others. This swimming pool episode I remember as being closer to the "too scary" than the ideal. However, the fact that I was watching it at home with my parents and sisters meant two things which I find positive about this series: 1.) it was scary enough to draw in both of my parents and 2.) if ever I was too scared, I could always go to them and they could turn the lights back on and return to normal and "not scary" life. But I do appreciate this post, it brings back many good memories.
I used to love this too! Actually all of my college friends and I spent a whole year watching several episodes each Tuesday night. The episode that stick out in my mind was the china doll episode and the ventrilquist dummy episode.
Oh the good old days of Nickelodeon.
